In early November, Evan discovered that he had a wiggly tooth. At first he was very curious and excited about it. But then he started to worry about a zillion different things: Was it going to hurt when it fell out? Was he going to see blood? Or even worse, was he going to TASTE blood in his mouth?? These concerns went on and on and one morning, he actually woke us up at 5 am, tears in his eyes, saying "What if I swallow the tooth in my sleep?? How will the Tooth Fairy even know to come and bring me some money??"
Finally, on the afternoon of Black Friday, while we were sitting together on the couch watching "Tangled," he suddenly said (vey nonchalantly, mind you) "Hey Mama, my tooth just came out." And that was that. We put it in a plastic sandwich bag and placed it under his pillow that night, and I left a note on his bedside table for the Tooth Fairy, letting her know that this was Evan's very first lost tooth, and asking her to please not take it because I wanted to keep it.
The next morning he found a $5 bill in the bag with his tooth. I told him that I'd heard the Tooth Fairy gives $5 now for the first lost tooth but just $1 for all the other teeth when they fall out. I took him to The Dollar Tree where he got to pick out 5 things to commemorate the occasion. He unselfishly picked out 3 things that he asked me to buy for Dylan, too, (including this reindeer headband) because he didn't want his little brother to be sad that he didn't get anything. So I ended up spending over $8 bucks at the dollar store but I appreciated this gesture from Evan.
